Two years ago today we were holding little Geda for the first time. I will never forget how still he was. He did nothing but lay on our chests. When we put him down we had to move his legs to see if they worked. No smiles. Only his eyes moved from side to side as he sucked quietly on his finger. I remember watching the other children laughing and smiling at their parents and wondering...when would Noah smile?
Today I watched as a happy ornery boy played at the beach: running in circles, doing summer saults, throwing sand, putting sand in brother's hair, and smiling. Smiling a smile that makes me laugh and fear all at the same time.
We love you Noah. Happy adoption day.
